Ayurveda is the ancient Indian “science of life” that is among the oldest healing systems in the world. It is a holistic therapy that promotes well being and serenity by maintaining a healthy mind, body and soul.
The principles behind Ayurveda are that by adopting the right diet, exercise and detoxification processes and by using hands-on massage therapies, mediation and yoga, it is possible to maintain your unique doshic (energy) balance and as a result lead a long, healthy and ultimately happy life.
An Ayurvedic massage is not only relaxing, but also serves the function of prompting the body and mind to begin healing itself. For minor ailments there is often an almost immediate reduction in symptoms following a treatment and the symptoms of serious illnesses or chronic conditions have also been proven to be alleviated with repeat treatments.
Whilst Ayurvedic massages have many benefits for those suffering from an illness, they are primarily adopted to enhance the natural healing processes of the body and to help strengthen the immune system thereby ultimately leading to the prevention of illness and the promotion of long-life and happiness.
Each Serenity Ayurvedic treatment begins with an in-depth consultation to determine your unique doshic balance and to identify any imbalances that are manifest in either the body, mind or soul. Based on the results of the consultation, the massage is then specifically tailored by the adoption of a particular oils, massage pressure and speed in order to correct the imbalances and realign your constitution.
Following the treatment, you will receive a specially selected Ayurvedic tea blend to further enhance the healing and balancing effects of the massage.
Serenity are pleased to offer the following Ayurvedic massage therapies:
Abhyanga
Abhyanga is a deeply relaxing oil massage that treats the whole body. The flowing strokes promote the elimination of toxins from the deep tissues of the body and encourage the subtle energies of the body to realign. When followed by a Shirodhara treatment, this is a powerful rejuvenation process that is extremely beneficial for body, mind and soul.
Shirodhara
Shirodhara – often described as the equivalent of meditating for a month – is a magnificent, yet simple, treatment that has enormous benefits for the mind, body and soul. It involves the continuous flow of warm oil on the forehead - a process that literally melts any unresolved emotions and stresses away. Whilst this treatment is available as a stand-alone therapy, it is of most benefit when combined with either an Abhyanga of Shiro-abhyanga massage.
Shiro-abhyanga
Shiro-abhyanga is a head, face, neck and shoulder massage, more commonly known as an Indian head massage.
Hata-abhyanga
Hata-abhyanga is an Ayurvedic reflexology treatment for the hands. It is included as part of a 90-minute Abhyanga treatment, but is also available as either a stand-alone treatment or can be done in conjunction with pada-abhyanga.
Pada-abhyanga
Pada-abhyanga is an Ayurvedic reflexology treatment for the feet. As for Hata-abhyanga, this is included within a 90-minute Abhyanga treatment, but is also available as either a stand-alone treatment or can be done in conjunction with hata-abhyanga.
